Drawing from life

10 minute pose

A5 pencil & watercolour

Life-drawings to collect

Life Drawing is something that I have practiced every Tuesday evening for well over 20 years. I love working directly from a live model and I still prefer short poses of 5, 10 & 15 minutes.

The focused energy that I have to conjure up each time - I'm sure transfers into the way I draw. I have to be selective and make decisions very quickly. This makes the drawings and the actual experience very special. So I thought it would be a great idea to offer them up to art lovers and collectors.

November 2022 to current day.

Early in November 2022, I decided to attempt working on a much smaller scale. I wanted to try something different, to challenge myself,  but instead of upscaling, I decided to downsize. I want to make my work more accessible to art buyers and collectors. Smaller artworks are much more affordable, collectable, easy to post and a lot cheaper to frame. (See A5 works)

I work on A5, A4 & A3 sized paper to mix things up and to challenge myself each week. I enjoy stretching the abilities of the humble pencil but I love to use watercolours and have been using pastels recently to make bolder, colourful artworks.

Great to Collect

My life drawings are like glimpses into my world. They are precious to me but I'd love to share them with you. They are all created with enthusiasm and with an energy that only short poses can inspire.

These small artworks are perfect for any room in the house. Really! They work particularly well together on a wall in sets of three. You could mix and match.

They are also sure to be a conversation starter!

I know that I'll never stop learning. This is inspiration in itself.

If there has been one constant source of inspiration in my journey as an artist, I can honestly say that it would be "life drawing".

Back in my art school days it was a tough experience but it really did feel like I was following in the footsteps of tradition.

I had to roll up my sleeves and just get on with it. Very soon I grew to enjoy the challenge of working directly from the naked human form, whether it be male, female, young or old.

Weekly practice of life drawing is one of the most important elements in my practice. Practice makes for a more fulfilled experience each time I draw and I know that I'll never stop learning!
